While living in the illustrious bay baybay, I notice sound in a whole new way. Being a musician, my ears are trained at listening to sounds separated like identifying individual instruments in a great orchestra. Because of this, I've decided that there are some unique San Francisco sounds for which I developed a strong affinity. The number one sound is the solitary sound of a skateboard rolling down 24th in the middle of the night, without cars present (close by) or voices. The grind of the street and it's clump clump and swish back and forth of the rider on the board stops me dead in my tracks to listen to the beautiful and unmistakeable sound. The echo of the riders noise off the buildings causes peaceful silence for a moment as my breath inhales to hear the speed of the rider sailing by....then the neighborhood sounds return....hey blood, yo blood, from the cornerstore, a car floats by on the road and you hear a whu whuup from the police siren. Ahhhhh the Mission. I love my home.
